Services to Victims of Crime and Tragedy

The aftermath of a crime, natural disaster, accident or emergency can be chaotic and overwhelming for the victim, and even those who witnessed the event. Our Mission at The RCMP Grande Cache Victim Services Society is to provide immediate assistance, support and information to victims of crime and traumatic events.

In keeping with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s emphasis on community policing, many RCMP Detachments are developing Victim Services programs as a means of addressing the needs of victims. There are currently 250 community or police based Victim Services Units operating across Canada including 60 Victim Services units in Alberta.

The Victim Services Unit operates locally out of the Grande Cache RCMP Detachment, with referrals largely being made by police officers.

Our goals at Victim Services is to assist the victims during their involvement in the criminal justice system while lessening the effects of crime experienced by the victim. We assist in the prevention of further victimization and we work with victims of crime ensuring their rights and needs are addressed. Victim Services assists the RCMP in providing an effective and sensitive service to the communities while enhancing the communication process
between the victims, the police and the justice system.

Our services offer emotional support and assistance with case information. We provide support service information in addition to referrals to appropriate resources. Court preparation can also be provided along with exploring support systems and safety plans. Victim Services also assists with the completion of criminal justice forms, including Victim Impact Statements and Victims of Crime Claims.

Grande Cache Victim Services could not operate without our dedicated volunteer support workers. Caring, community-minded volunteers who have been trained and security-cleared to provide confidential service to victims.
